Mysterious Booms in Colorado Baffle Law Enforcement

Have you heard loud booms in Wheat Ridge lately? That’s the question police are asking residents following several reports of loud booms or explosions across a large area of the Jefferson County city.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Wheat Ridge Police said they have taken multiple calls and noticed several posts on social media regarding the mystery noise over the past month.

The noise is described as a single loud boom, occurring more frequently on weekends, although police say some have happened on other days of the week, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Some callers said they saw a flash of light.

The noise is so loud, it has shaken homes, buildings and has set off car alarms. But police say there have been no reports of injuries or property damage.

Wheat Ridge Police say some of its officers have heard the boom, noting it sounded like a transformer or fireworks.

Police are baffled as to what could be causing the booms. They say they have not gathered enough evidence to locate a source.

Wheat Ridge Police are asking residents to call 911 or the non-emergency number — 303-237-2220 — as soon as they hear the boom.
