Parent slammed for regifting kids’ confiscated iPads ‘as new ones’ for Christmas

A parent has been labelled ‘gross’ after sharing their plan to regift their children’s old iPads as new ones this Christmas having taken them away as punishment.

The children, age six and seven, both have their own iPad mini but frustrated their parent with their behaviour over the summer after ‘constantly fighting with each other and just being brats in general’.

After ‘losing it one day’, the anonymous parent took the iPads away and told the two young children that they were being sold, never to be seen again.

Both were left in floods as tears as their tech was cleaned up and put back in the original boxes with the accessories packed away ready to go on sale.

“But I couldn’t do it,” they wrote on Reddit .

The children have been well behaved since

“They went into a box in the closet. Summer passed, fall passed.

“The kids have been great and I feel they’ve earned them back.

“Christmas is coming. Money is super tight this year. Am I the a**hole for wanting to clear the iPads with a factory reset, buy a couple new cases as a distraction and regift them their old iPads as new ones?”

Some users lashed out at the idea, with one writing: “You’ve already gifted them to your kids.

“If they were taken away because of their poor behavior, giving them back should be earned by their good behavior, not as a regift.

The parent wants to pretend the iPads are new ones

“You’re sending them mixed signals… is it a gift? Is a gift with conditions? What does a gift really mean if it can be taken back? Do you want them to think it’s acceptable to take back gifts they give people in the future?

“I can feel how upset they’d be if they were all excited about opening a present thinking they’re getting a gift, only to find it’s something that was taken from them.

“You remind them of how upset they were about getting them taken away on Christmas day??? Yikes.”

Advice for parents

Another said: “You’re playing a gross game here.

“Have a strong feeling you’d take these ‘new’ tablets away when you get annoyed again.”

Not everyone was against the idea, with another replying: “I would say that is fair, they lost their iPads for a reason.

“So giving it back cleaned and with some accessories for Christmas wouldn’t be a dumb thing, I think it would also teach them a lesson.”
